ABOUT ME, WE, US ..
We are sadly experiencing a rapid rise in youth isolation, loneliness, addiction, bullying, judgment, self harm and suicide .. EMPOWERING TEENS, is about shifting this through early intervention, prevention and discovering your most empowered self, while inspiring this in others. We won't do this by TELLING you what to do or how to live your life, you get enough of that. We are all about creating a loving, kind, safe and encouraging community, and space, where you are free to find the answers from within, liberated to be yourself and express yourself in your unique way.
Yes, this means often unapologetically, messily, uncertain and not expected to always have the answers, as TOGETHER we choose ways to live feel proud of who we are everyday.
WE CAN CHANGE THE WORLD by sharing honest and empowering ideas, visions, dreams, opinions and passions, which we will support you to turn them into ACTION.
ABOUT KYLA
(SHE/HER/WE) + WHY LISTEN + JOIN OUR MISSION.
I embarked on this path of work because I had a pretty rough and confusing experience growing up and at times when I asked curious questions to try and make some sense of it all, I was shamed for being me. Being bullied in primary school led to deep confusion, self hatred, perfectionism traits and I MUST NOT BE ENOUGH self worth issues. Which all led to extensive alcohol and drug use, depression, moments of suicide ideation, disassociation, toxic relationship choices and lots of other unhealthy choices along the way. That was until I FOUND another, more kind, loving and playful way and I began to #pressplaymyway on a life that broke most of the societal rules and felt deliciously valuable and aligned to my heART.
Growing up I always teased for being different, though I also never really wanted to tick the boxes, or fit the labels, everyone told me I needed too, to fit in. As all the girls dressed as princesses for book week, I rubbed dirt all over my face and went as HuckleBerry Finn, my dream to adventure the world and make friends everywhere I went. Though surrounded by friends, most of the time I felt completely alone, like a misunderstood outsider. it was like I was watching the party of my life, and never really feeling a part of any of it and so I did everything to distract and disassociate myself from feeling any of the emotional pain of not belonging.
Then sadly a friend of mine died by suicide and his loss shocked me into a wake up, shake up, and decision to finally take action. I started committing to my own inner healing and development, determined to finally figure out WHO I WAS, why i was here, and what the real purpose of this thing called life was.
After many tears, a-ha's, and WTF awakenings along the way, 11years ago I decided to make it my life purpose to remind as many humans as I could that OUR PLACE ON THIS EARTH MATTERS .. YOU ARE LOVED .. THERE IS ALWAYS ANOTHER CHOICE AND THAT YOU ARE, HAVE ALWAYS BEEN, and WILL FOREVER BE, MORE THAN ENOUGH.
So welcome my new friend, it is an honour to share this crazy, chaotic, wondrous, wonderful and sometimes sucky, journey of life with you. please know, now that you have arrived here today you ALWAYS HAVE A FRIEND IN ME, and US ..
On here we will be posting playFULL reflections, curiosities and SOULutions (mostly designed by our community of teens), to some of life's most peculiar questions so that together we can ensure that no one, including you, ever feels lost or alone amidst the complexities and challenges of life.
